DESCRIPTION
The advent of digital publishing platforms revolutionized scholarly communication in the 1990s, and profoundly changed how researchers and libraries interact with journals. Digital journals offered exciting improvements like the capacity to publish dynamic content, link to rich media like data sets and high-resolution figures, and save on printing, postage, and physical shelf space. They also fundamentally altered the business model for scholarly publishers, and challenged the concept of ownership for library collections. In this webinar, LOCKSS Community Manager Snowden Becker will review the past, present, and future of post-cancellation access in the era of digital publishing, highlighting the essential (and complex!) role of preservation in evolving knowledge production.
