The Mentoring and Student Outreach Committee strives to foster strong relationships with library and information science programs and recruit the next generation of information professionals, as well as promoting the organization to the profession as a whole.

Mentoring Program:
April -- Send out notices to library schools announcing NASIG mentoring program
May – send out request for mentors in NASIG
May – check in with LIS ambassadors that they wish to continue
June – match mentors and mentees/matches send back mentoring contract
July to May – monthly questions sent to mentors and mentees
November – first survey sent to participants/drawing for gift card for mentees
May – second survey sent to participants/drawing for gift card for mentees
Conference Mentoring:
April (prior to conference): Work with PPC and the NASIG social media & marketing coordinator to invite proposals for the Student Spotlight sessions. Evaluate and select proposals and notify presenters of the status of their proposals.
4-6 weeks prior to conference: call goes out on NASIG-L for experienced NASIG attendees to sign up as mentors.
Two weeks before conference: Sign-up of mentors complete
One week before conference: Mentor/mentee assignments complete
One week post-conference: Send reminder to complete evaluation of conference mentoring program & first timers reception
